Julia Creek Hospital transitioned to the McKinlay Shire Multi Purpose Health Service in 2012. The service is a Level 2 service as categorised by the Clinical Services Capability Framework.

McKinlay has a flexible bed capability with 10 beds for general medical and surgical, and simple paediatric admissions. There are also two residential aged care beds with capability of expanding to seven beds if required, as well as one palliative care bed.

In 2014, McKinlay received funding to upgrade the kitchen with modern facilities to better support the nutritional requirements of patients.

The McKinlay community has an active community advisory network and health advisory panel for community engagement in steering the direction of health services.

McKinlay provides financial assistance through the Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme to eligible patients who need to travel to other health services for procedures and tests not available locally.

Telehealth services link patients and staff with other facilities via video-conference and have seen real cost savings and demonstrated patient care benefits.
