The patients and staff of the Kiama inpatient ward relocated to the newly refurbished ‘Kiama Ward’ at Shellharbour Private Hospital in September 2016. The new inpatient unit continues to provide slow stream rehabilitation to aged care patients under the same model of care. 

Our Local Health District (LHD) has, for a number of years, outlined its intention to eventually relocate beds currently used at Kiama Hospital to an expanded Shellharbour Hospital campus, in line with our long-term Health Care Services Plan. 

Following Kiama Council’s decision to proceed with its proposal to purchase the Kiama Hospital site for the development of an aged care facility; the LHD stepped up its planning and logistics for the move. The newly refurbished ‘Kiama Ward’ at Shellharbour Private Hospital will house an 18 bed inpatient unit that offers slow stream rehabilitation to aged care patients.
