Macquarie Hospital is a 195 bed specialized mental health residential facility for adults with a serious mental illness or disorder. It is gazetted under the NSW Mental Health Act, 1990.

Macquarie Hospital is situated on a 135-acre site surrounded by parklands. The site is well serviced by public transport and is approximately 40 minutes from Sydney CBD.

The hospital's clinical areas include a 14 bed acute admission unit which provides assessment and short term treatment for patients requiring acute psychiatric care, eight rehabilitation units providing medium and long-term mental health rehabilitation, and extended care and six day-program areas.

On admission to Macquarie Hospital, each patient is linked to a care co-ordinator who is a qualified, caring professional, responsible for assisting the patient, their family and their carers during the hospital admission. Consumer Advocates are employed to support patients throughout their hospital stay and the views of carers are represented at peak hospital committee level.

Staff work in multidisciplinary teams, providing evidence based, best practice clinical care with the positive expectation and commitment that, where possible, patients will move to less restrictive environments along their pathway to recovery.
