The Community Forensic Mental Health Service is the service delivery arm of Forensicare responsible for providing outpatient and community based programs. The statewide service is located in Clifton Hill, in close proximity to Thomas Embling Hospital.
The programs provided by the Community Forensic Mental Health Service are primarily for people who have a serious mental illness and have offended, or are at high risk of offending. Specialist assessment and treatment is also provided for people who present with a range of serious problem behaviours.
Services are only provided on the basis of a referral and subsequent assessment. Most clients are referred from area mental health services, Corrections Victoria, courts, Adult Parole Board, Thomas Embling Hospital, Acute Assessment Unit at Melbourne, other government agencies and private practitioners.
The focus of the Mental Health Program is the provision of community based clinical and support services to high risk clients who have a serious mental illness and significant forensic issues. Major emphasis is placed on risk assessment and risk management, together with assertive follow up and outreach services. The Program also includes primary, secondary and tertiary consultations.
The Mental Health Program provides direct clinical services through the Community Integration Program and the Non-Custodial Supervision Order Program, and also incorporates Forensicare’s Mental Health Court Liaison Service.
