Yarrawonga Health was established on 1 July 1999, following the formal amalgamation of Yarrawonga District Hospital, Yarrawonga Nursing Home and the Yarrawonga Community Health Centre. The Yarrawonga District Hospital was established in 1946, the Community Health Centre opened in 1977 and the Yarrawonga Nursing Home opened in 1978. The health service opened the Allawah Special Care Hostel in 1991, and took on the management of the Warrina Hostel in June 2001.
Yarrawonga Health is located in the township of Yarrawonga on the Murray River within the Moira Shire. The NSW town of Mulwala is located across the Murray River (within the Corowa Shire) opposite Yarrawonga. Yarrawonga and Mulwala have an approximate population of 10,000 incorporating the towns of Tungamah and Bundalong. Yarrawonga is approximately 265 Kilometres north-east of Melbourne via the Hume Freeway. The township of Yarrawonga and neighbouring Mulwala is renowned for its wonderful climate, and is often referred to as an "Inland Aquatic Paradise" for water skiing and fishing activities. Yarrawonga Health is a local public health service providing lower complexity acute inpatient services, residential aged care and primary and community health services. The health service comprises of 19 acute medical and surgical beds; two labour delivery rooms, a dedicated day-stay unit, three residential facilities onsite with a total of 88 beds, as well as Community Services.
Yarrawonga Health employs approximately 250 staff and we aim to maintain and develop quality services to meet the needs of our community.
